Engineering Schools 2010

Become a NWU-PUK for a while and experience the fun side of Engineering!

Having any doubts whether or not you want to study engineering? Invest in your future and attend our Engineering School.

What is it about?

Our Engineering School can help you to make an informed and sound decision. The faculty hosts three Engineering Schools annually for Grade 10 - 12 learners interested in engineering studies. An Engineering School is presented over 4 days during which time prospective students are thoroughly informed about all aspects of enginering as career, what engineering studies entail and what being a student is like. The focus is not merely on work, and learners have lots of fun.

What can I expect from this School?

The program includes, among other things, the following:

  • Visits to the different Schools and laboratories within the faculty.
  • Informal lectures and contact with the engineering lecturers and students.
  • Visits to companies to experience engineering in practice.
  • Fun projects for the learners which can be taken home.

When and where will it be held?

Engineering Schools are hosted during the March and June holidays, on the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University. Dates:
- 29 March - 1 April
- 15 - 18 June

Do I qualify for Engineering Studies?

Remember that if you'd like to study Engineering you have to have:

  • Mathematics and Physical Science (C-symbol on HG) and an APS score of at least 31.

What will it cost me?

An amount of R1050.00* is charged for attending the Engineering School. This inclued all meals and safe accommodation walking distance from campus (under supervision), as well as transport costs for the week. Learners will, however, have to arrange for their own transport to and from Potchefstroom.

Another highlight is the chance to soar the skies in a glider (if weather permits). Available at an additional charge of R150.00* per person. Hosted by the Akavlieg NWU-PUK Gliding Club.

How do I register?

Book early to prevent disappointment - these schools are very popular and only a limited number of learnes can be accommodated!
