The School of Curriculum-based Studies
Welcome to the School of Curriculum-based Studies

The School of Curriculum-based Studies is the home of the initial education training programme, the Baccalaureus Educationus (BEd) and the Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE). A three-year degree, the Baccalaureus in Training and Development (BTD), for the training of trainers, is also offered.

The BEd is a four-year professional qualification which offers both academic and professional education necessary to become a teacher. The PGCE is a one-year programme which follows on from an approved degree. In the above-mentioned programmes practical teaching is an important part of the programme, from the first year onwards. After successfully completing the programme, the student qualifies for registration with the South African Council for Educators and for appointment as a teacher in a South African school on REQV14.

The BTD qualification is a three-year qualification. With this qualification, students may practice as training practioners in the training and development sector.

These programmes lead to a degree, and give students access to post-graduate programmes up to doctoral level (PhD).
