Travel
between the airport and Windhoek |
The
Windhoek international airport is located about 50
km outside from Windhoek (see map), in the east. Shuttle
services and a bus (N$ 40-50)
connect the airport and the major hotels as well as the city
center. Most car rental companies are prepared to arrange
pickup at the airport. The drive from the airport to the city
takes about 40 min. H.E.S.S.
Collaboration members will assist with pickup to the guest
houses listed below and on the Accomodation page. |
Travel
from Windhoek to the H.E.S.S. site |
The
distance from Windhoek to the H.E.S.S. site on the Farm Goellschau
is 104 km, on a gravel road in
a southwesterly direction (see map). The
road is maintained in regular intervals, and road quality
varies with time since the last maintenance. The drive takes
about 1 1/2 hours from the city center. Leave the city on
Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue, passing
the University of Namibia (see map of Windhoek), and take
road no. C26 to Walvis Bay. After
32 km, turn left to continue on C26
for another 72 km. The access
to the H.E.S.S. site is through a gate
about 0.5 km before the entrance to the farm, on the
right hand side (see map of the farm). Follow the farm road
for about 5 km, until you reach
the site. Bus transport from Heja lodge
to the HESS site will be available on the morning of
28 September. |
| Heja Lodge |
Heja
is ideally situated in the middle between Windhoek and Hosea
Kutako international airport (see map below).
H.E.S.S. Collaboration members will assist with pickup at
the airport on 25, 26 and 27 September to Heja Lodge. |
Finke's
Sicht |
Finke's
Sicht (see Accomodation page) is also situated halfway between
Windhoek and the airport (near Heja). H.E.S.S. Collaboration
members will assist with pickup at the airport on 25, 26 and
27 September to Heja and Finke's Sicht. Management of Finke's
Sicht also offered limited travel assistance to its guests
for transportation between the various guest houses, Heja
(for the duration of the Inauguration Workshop) and the airport. |
