Prof. Gordon Sibiya received honorary degree
The University of Fort Hare awarded Prof Gordon Sibiya, lecturer at the NWU Post-graduate School of Nuclear Science and Engineering (PGSNSE), with an honorary degree in Doctor of Science during their Graduation Ceremony earlier this year. The award was given to Sibiya for his community work in teaching mathematics and science at school level and beyond. Sibiya has more than 20 years of experience in the Engineering Industry and holds a PhD in Nuclear Engineering obtained from the University of Stuttgart in the Federal Republic of Germany. He is also member of several professional bodies in science and engineering, including the SA Institute of Physics, Engineering Council of SA, SA Institute of Electrical Engineers (also former Member of Council), Founder and Chairman of the Science and Engineering Academy of SA (SEASA), and the SA Institute of Measurements and Control. He has also actively participated in the formation of at least three black empowerment companies, having played a leadership role in each. Prof. Sibiya is currently a programme leader of one of the post-graduate nuclear engineering programmes offered by the NWU PGSNSE. "I am interested and practice in nuclear technology and renewable energy as my speciality subject and professional career. I believe this will enhance and assist development of application principles, policy framework issues and the execution of project work in this discipline for selected enterprises such as industry, government departments, parastatals, regulatory entities, research institutions.” Enquiries: Prof. Gordon Sibiya
