PUK A Capella group of the PUK wins international competition
The Boulevard New Harmonists from the PUK Campus of the North-West University have overseas audiences on their feet with their performance of classical music, folk music and African music. The group recently won the International Advent and Christmas music competition for smaller choirs in Prague. The Boulevard Harmonists is a six-voice a capella ensemble consisting of three women and three men. Their programme includes a broad spectrum of music ranging from classical music to light and folk music. This a capella ensemble held two shows in Prague for the competition. The first of these was a formal concert during which four choirs, chosen from 51 choirs from all over the world, performed. The Boulevard Harmonists were one of the four choirs chosen for this performance. The second was a competition during which they had to present a music programme judged by international experts. They kicked dust in the eyes of more than 25 other choirs. The group also has performances scheduled in Krakow, Ljubljana, Budapest, Spittal, Kleinarl and Vienna before the end of the month. They are always a big hit at the Aardklop National Arts Festival. Enquiries can be directed to: Peet Ryke, Department of Culture. Tel: (018) 299-2849.
