The School of Nursing Science (SONS) is committed to contributing to the optimal health of South Africans through excellence in research, teaching-learning, practice, innovation and leadership, that is regionally focused, nationally relevant and internationally competitive, and by living our motto of "Excellence beyond limits."

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE:

The filling of prominent national and international leadership positions provides recognition of the expertise that exists in SONS. Several international collaboration projects in research and education are undertaken. The School was also the driving force behind the National Nurses Survey 2008 to investigate the correlation between nurses' education, job satisfaction, staff retention and patient outcomes.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT:

The School has a well-equipped simulation laboratory with six hospital beds and three cubicles for midwifery, community and general nursing respectively. The midwifery cubicle contains various models, a birth simulator, and birthing instruments.
