Mrs. BERNARDA SWART
Bernarda Swart (née Vorster) hails from Rustenburg where she started with piano and violin lessons at the Rustenburg Music Conservatoire. She was awarded various bursaries for Unisa music examinations and made several recordings for the Young South Africa radio programme.
She studied piano with Adolph Hallis, won the Doris Tothill Open Scholarship at the Johannesburg Eisteddfod, and appeared as soloist with the Johannesburg Symphony Orchestra.
She studied for the B.Mus. (Performance) degree at the University of Pretoria under Philip Levy and received the Pretorium Trust study scholarship, the Otto Bach Piano Scholarship, and a University of Pretoria post-graduate scholarship.
After having been recommended for the Unisa Overseas Scholarship, she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna under Walter Panhofer. On her return to South Africa she was appointed as piano lecturer at the University of Pretoria in 1976.
Mrs. Swart was appointed as piano lecturer at the PU for CHE in 1996 after completing her M.Mus. degree at the University of Pretoria. She regularly appears as piano accompanist and was invited to take part in chamber music series in Basel, Switzerland during May 1997, as well as in Lanciano, Italy during October 2001.
