SHORT CV - Dr. Corrie T. Wolmarans
Corrie Wolmarans was born in 1953 in Heidelberg Gauteng. He matriculated in 1971 from Alberton High School, did his military training in 1972 and obtained his B.Sc in 1975, B.Sc Honns in Zoology in 1976, M.Sc in 1979 and D.Sc in 1984 and B.Comm Honns in Labour Relations in 2002 all at PU for CHE.
From 1981 to 1985 he was employed at the Medical Research Council as Medical Researcher and later as Senior Medical Researcher. During this time he was involved in several aspects regarding the physiology of the intermediate host snail for the schistosome parasite, snail-parasite interactions and the distribution of the intermediate hosts snails in South Africa.
He commenced his academic career at the PU for CHE in 1986 as Senior Lecturer where he is involved in lecturing Parasitology for Pharmaceutical and Zoology students. His research activities focus primarily on the epidemiology of schistosomiasis and he is partly responsible for maintaining the National Fresh Water Snail Collection of South Africa situated at the School of Environmental Sciences and Development at the North West University.

RESEARCH INTERESTS - Dr. Corrie T. Wolmarans
I am involved in studies on the epidemiology of schistosomiasis in the Limpopo Province. The aims of the studies are to develop a better understanding of the disease in rural areas of South Africa, to develop strategies for effective diagnosis and treatment of infected children and to create an awareness and better understanding of the disease.
