SHORT CV - Kenné N. De Kock
Kenné Nicolaas de Kock was born in 1939 in Klerksdorp, North West Province, South Africa. He matriculated in 1957 from the Ventersdorp High School, obtained his B.Sc. in 1960, B.Sc. hons. in 1961, M.Sc. in 1966 and the D.Sc. degree in 1973, all at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education.
From 1961 to 1968 he was employed at the Snail Research Unit of the PU for CHE and the CSIR at Potchefstroom, as Research Assistant (1961 - 1963)and as Research Officer (1964 - 1966). When the financial support of the Snail Research Unit was taken over by the SAMRC in 1967, he was promoted to Senior Research Officer, a position which he held until 1977.
In 1978 he was appointed at the PU for CHE where he held the following positions: Senior Research Scientist and Lecturer (1978 - 1980), Chief Research Officer and Lecturer (1981 - 1992), Associate Professor (1993 - 1999), Emeritus Professor (2000 - 2004).
His research activities focus on the taxonomy, ecology, geographical distribution and parasitology of the freshwater molluscs of South Africa in general and of the snail intermediate hosts of schistosomiasis in particular.

- Taxonomy, ecology, experimental ecology and geographical distribution of South African freshwater snail species in general and of those species of medical and veterinary importance, in particular.
- The epidemiology and control of human schistosomiasis in South Africa.
- To expand the National Freshwater Snail Collection and to update the database.
