Faculty of Education Sciences

ABOUT US

The Faculty of Education Sciences has had a proud history of teacher training since 1919. The context in which teacher training takes place reflects the continuous interaction between the wider and local contextual influences, for example

  • Norms and Standards for Educators (2002);
  • 2001 incorporation of the POK into the PUK;
  • 2004 merger of two universities to form the NWU;
  • 2006 restructuring of the Faculty;
  • 2007 move to new buildings; and
  • 2008 National Policy Framework for Teacher Education.
The Faculty of Education Sciences consists of three schools (School for Curriculum-based Studies, School of Education, School of Continuing Teacher Education) and a Focus Area (Teaching–Learning organisations), each of which is managed by a director who reports directly to the Executive Dean
