School of Continuing Teacher Education (SCTE)
The School of Continuing Teacher Education (SCTE) is responsible for the in-service training of under- and unqualified teachers, as well as further training of already qualified teachers through the following programmes:
The National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE) : for teachers without a three-year teacher qualification, with at least 5 years teaching experience.
The Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) : for teachers with a three-year teacher qualification.
The Honours Degree in Education (HonsBEd) : for teachers with a B.Ed Degree or a four year education qualification.
Currently, the SCTE has 23,000 students across South Africa and Namibia. An Open Learning System is followed. Students may enrol throughout the year. All study material is provided. Contact classes are presented twice a month, as well as during vacation schools, at 30 Tuition Centres throughout South Africa. The SCTE is also the home of the Centre for Education in Traffic Safety (CENETS).
