Specialises in research on Church Polity, notably Church unity, Church fellowship and Church Relations. Teaches at undergraduate level, notably Church History of the Reformed Churches in South Africa and Church Polity.

Author of 18 scholarly articles, a number of contributions to academic books and popular articles to Church journals. 

Promoter for 4 PhD candidates (2 completed) working on theses, supervisor for (completed) 9 master's candidates, with 2 more working on dissertations. External examiner of 5 PhD theses and 6 master's dissertations.  

Involvement in Church affairs: member of various commissions of the National Synod of the Reformed Churches in South Africa; member of the Committee for Inter Church Relations of the three Afrikaans speaking Reformed Churches in South Africa for 17 years. As member of the Deputies for Eccumenical affairs, have visited and represented the Reformed Churches abroad many times. 

Current positions in professional associations: member of The Church History Society of Southern Africa; member of the society for Church Polity in South Africa; member of the steering committee of the International Theological Congress of Reformed Theology.  

National and international appearances: Has read papers at a number of international and numerous local conferences. Lectured (1991) at the Christelijke Gereformeerde University of Apeldoorn in the Netherlands for one month; and at Calcin Semeinary, Gr Rapids, USA.

Member of the council of the North-west University.
